TRAINING

Training on how to add content and information onto YampaValley.info is a quick and painless process--you can be a pro in less than an hour!

To attend a training class or arrange for a one-on-one session on how to use the site, contact us at information@yampavalley.info.

We have regularly scheduled classes on a monthly basis at Colorado Mountain College. Training is approximately 2 hours and we encourage attendees to bring information with them to class. All classes are conducted at CMC's Bristol Hall Computer Lab.

WHAT TO BRING TO TRAINING

Top
Dependent upon what’s already on the site within your realm, you may want to bring some of the following items:

  • Mission Statement

  • History of your organization locally

  • List of Services

  • Photos of your organization providing services, fundraisers etc.

  • Volunteer Needs – What type of help you are looking for, when, etc.

  • Programs

  • Web links to your organization or others state or national you’d like to link to

  • Documents like applications, brochures, flyers etc that you’d like to make into a printable version off the site.

  • Testimonials etc.

Be creative!

  • If possible, please bring your information in a digital format (on a floppy or disc). If necessary, you may e-mail your files to yourself prior to the meeting and access the files over the internet in the CMC lab. In addition, we will have access to a scanner to digitize any photos, maps, flyers or documents. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to prepare these photos or documents. That’s what the training session is about.

  • Acceptable formats for photos: gif, tif, jpg, pdf. Size should be approximately 4 X 4 and around 25-30 KB

  • Formats for documents are best as Word or Excel

  • No Cell phones allowed in the lab – sorry

  • Please do not use an Imation Disc for use in the CMC lab

  • Items should be written and photos taken, in a way that says “This is Routt County” if possible.

Getting Your Information on the Site

Organizations can publish their information via one or more of the following mechanisms:

  • If you have an existing web page on another server, send your URL (web address) and a short description to the appropriate center manager(s) and request that a "link" to your site be added to the center. You can find center manager contact information developer addresses on the Contact Us page or on the information page.

  • If you have put together a web site (or need assistance developing a web site) for your organization and would like it to be hosted on the YampaValley.info site:

Step One: Complete and send us a completed information provider form listed under documents below. Yampavalley.info's information is categorized into Centers under Community Information. Your site will be housed under one of these centers. On the information provider form, please indicate which center you would like to call home. A site may be linked to more than one center, but can only reside in one.

Step Two: Attend a training for adding information to YampaValley.info. YampaValley.info encourages organizations to update their web site often, unlike printed material, the web allows you to showcase your organization on a timely basis (ie. meetings, fundraisers, events, newsletters, etc). Ideally a member of your organization should attend a training class so you may update and revise your site on a timely basis.

Contact us at information@yampavalley.info if you'd like to become trained. Your site can be set-up and ready to go in less than an hour of training!
