SEVEN SPRINGS...2 MILES...2 HOURS
Long before skiing was established in Steamboat Springs, our thermal springs were the biggest “tourist attraction”. Before Caucasians settled here. Native Americans frequented these waters. The Indians believed the springs were sacred places where the Great Spirit lived deep below the earth’s surface, and they visit after battles to rejuvenate their strength.
We hope you enjoy this tour of the springs of Steamboat. The walk should take approximately 2 hours Please use this map for guidance as the new trail differs from the one on the blue signs located at each springs. Suitable walking shoes are advised since parts of the trail are rough and steep. After visiting all of the springs, you may join the Yampa River Trail via Howelsen Park, following the trail over to the Yampa Island Park and across the bridge back to the Health and Recreation Center for a well-earned soak…. Enjoy!!
These documents and introduction was created by the good work of George Tolles, a long time local Mineral Springs Expert and Susan Peterson of Steamboat Springs Parks and Recreation Department. The graphic design on the map was done by local artist Sue Schneller
