In conjunction with the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts and the NRCS, Routt County Conservation District continues to sponsor education in agriculture through the annual Sixth Grade Poster Contest. With materials and personnel provided by the participating agencies, teachers design and present a conservation unit to their sixth grade students. Students then create a poster depicting a conservation practice.
The District gives first, second, and third place awards to students from each participating school. In November, the District enters the top three posters from Routt County in the state contest sponsored by the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts. Unfortunately, none of Routt County's posters were chosen by CACD.
The 2007 poster contest winners chosen by the Board of RCCD are: 1st place Abi Velasquez with her poster titled 'Be Responsible, Move Your Herd'. 2nd place is Belle Mazzola with her poster titled 'Be Smart, Help Stop Erosion'. 3rd place is Briana Martinez. Congrats to all our kids who entered; these were some tough choices this year.
The District extends our thanks to Vance Fulton of the Natural Resources Conservation Service for his continued contributions to this program.
