Pikes Peak CattleWoman, Barbara Gieck, Named 2005 Colorado CattleWoman of the Year
The Colorado CattleWomen recognize Barbara Gieck as the Colorado CattleWoman of the Year at the November Mid-Winter Gathering in Colorado Springs.
Barbara Gieck has been a member of the Pikes Peak CattleWomen for nearly 30 years. During that time, she has held nearly every office that the organization offers, many more than once. During the years when she wasn’t an officer, Barbara was able to devote her time to the organization’s programs. She has spoken to countless people for and about agriculture in a variety of venues: schools, National Western Stockshow, grocery stores, local and state fairs, and casual conversations.
The Pikes Peak CattleWomen nominated Barbara, not only for her participation in state and local education, promotion, and fund raising activities; but for her goal as a CattleWoman. “Barbara’s goal as a Cattlewoman has never been to gain recognition for herself. Her goal has been to inform and educate the public of the issues facing agriculture and the importance of Agriculture in every life.

Collegiate CattleWoman, Emma Vaughn, Named Colorado CattleWomen Rookie of the Year for 2005.
During the November Mid-Winter Gathering in Colorado Springs, the Colorado CattleWomen awarded Emma Vaughn the Rookie of the Year award. Emma comes from a long line of Cattlewomen and is a third generation CattleWoman who was raised on a ranch in Rio Blanco County. She took her agricultural background of 4-H, livestock judging, FFA, and ranching background with her to college, where she is majoring in Ag Communications. Emma was also a Colorado Beef Ambassador. Emma’s first official year as a Colorado CattleWoman found her being the driving force in the formation of the Northeastern Junior College Collegiate CattleWomen. This meant getting college approval for the club, setting up rules and by-laws. While all this work was going on, the club, with Emma as its president still managed to raise funds and promote beef by serving and handing out materials at an auction, Farm Bureau barbeque, tractor pull, milk chugging contest, and Ag Days. They participated in the Colorado CattleWomen Legislative Days and set up an educational program with the public schools working with students from preschool through fourth grade.
Emma Vaughn was nominated by the Mesa County CattleWomen and the Lone Cone CattleWomen. With young women like Emma in its ranks, the Colorado CattleWomen should be strong for years to come.
