Yampa Valley Construction Trades Association

Lakefront Mountain Log Chalet [Click here to view full size picture] Yampa Valley Construction Trades Association has been and is your best voice for addressing new public policy such as licensing, fees, building permits, planning issues, State or Federal Issues, OSHA compliance, site drainage, Highway Department regulation and more.

The Board of Directors has voted to have regular monthly meetings and a yearly meeting for the general membership. We have chosen to be a proactive group to address issues at the onset rather than jump in later. In addition we feel that we should contribute to civic groups that pertain to our business such as Habitat for Humanity and trade scholarships.

A list of the board members is found below. Feel free to call or email anyone on the list to voice your opinions or concerns.

Our dues have remained steady at $50 per year per million dollars of revenue, with a minimum dues of $50 per year.

Current Issues

Top
This section updates the community on current issues and items of concern. Some of the issues currenty being discussed are:

Construction Use Tax
The City of Steamboat Springs Sales Tax Department is offering a free construction use tax seminar on Friday, March 28, 2008. The Seminar will be held at Citizen's Hall at 124 10th Street from 10am to 12 noon. Please call 871-8233 or 871-8247 to register.

Green Building Practices
Several YVCTA members have volunteered to participate on the City of Steamboat Springs' Green Building Technical Advisory Committee. Colorado mandated smaller towns & communities must adopt an energy code. Last fall a panel was created to discuss the issue and prepare a recommendation. As of February 2008 there had been eight meetings. The participants have reviewed national and local building codes and found none met the specific needs of Steamboat Springs, so they’re creating a green building code from scratch. There will be a points system, but it has not yet been determined if compliance will be voluntary or mandatory. The participants expect to have a plan ready for review by April 1st and they encourage community input at that time.

Affordable Housing Forum Series
The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, the Steamboat Springs Board of Realtors and the City of Steamboat Springs offer an informative forum series from March 28th to July 26th on one of the community's hottest topics: Affordable Housing. Please see the link below for all the details and call 875-7000 to register, as seating is limited.

Community Market Demands Study
The Yampa Valley Housing Authority in conjunction with the City of Steamboat Springs, Routt County Board of Commissioners, the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, and the Routt County Economic Development Cooperative believe that it is critical to complete a local demand analysis to ensure the workforce housing needs are identified.
