A second home is defined as property whose owner's primary residence is elsewhere. In the past the concept of a vacation home assisted the development of our ski industry, with virtually all vacation homes being offered for short term rentals. Socioeconomic shifts have generated an industry now known as the Second Home Industry. The combination of condominiums that are offered for short term rental and second homes account for almost 50% of the housing market in Routt County.
