Agriculture

Yampa ValleyRoutt County is a diverse environment offering breathtaking mountain vistas and picturesque ranch lands. Located in northwest Colorado, the county encompasses a total of 2,231 square miles. Communities located in Routt County include Clark, Hahns Peak, Milner, Phippsburg, and Toponas, the towns of Hayden, Oak Creek and Yampa, and the city of Steamboat Springs.

At the heart of Routt County's western heritage is its AGRICULTURAL heritage. Ranching has been a way of life since the late 1800's in the Yampa Valley. With many new residents that wish to live the western lifestyle, the Routt County Cooperative Extension Office has produced "A Guide to Rural Living & Small Scale Agriculture". This guide was created as a result of the increasing need to assist new residents in making educated and informed decisions and help with the transition to rural living in Routt County. Much of the information in this Agriculture section comes from this guide.
