The Yampa Valley Electric Association has historically requested meters be located on the front of homes for easy access given the area's high snow levels.  Some of the more affluent communities required decorative meter boxes to cover or enclose the unsightly apparatus.  Many of the larger homes on the mountain have decorative boxes covering the meter.  The electric company has been sending letters to owners of these covered meters requesting they be removed.  Several of our members feel enforcing the meter cover removal retroactively is unfair and perhaps even illegal.  For the YVEA to start a new policy denying future electric meter covers is perhaps acceptable and reasonable.  Aesthetics should never override safety concerns or fire hazards.
