Where in Routt County Photo Contest

Where in Routt County? Photo Contest

Purpose

Historic Routt County’s (HRC) Where in Routt County? Photo Contest is an opportunity to engage the community while increasing the visibility, recognition and value of Routt County’s historic and cultural resources.

How the Program WorksDiamond Window Cabin Restored!

Historic Routt County will submit to the Steamboat Today (ST) digital photos of historic and cultural resources throughout Routt County.  The photos will be of landmarks and icons that are of obvious historical or cultural significance, but the perspective or camera location may be unusual, less frequently seen, or focused on a detail rather than the entire resource.  For example (and an easy one), the Diamond Window Cabin might be a photo of only the diamond window.

Resources photographed must be visible from a U.S., state, or primary county road.  The resource cannot be at the end of a dead end road or a county road or portion of a county road that is not maintained in the winter.

Publication Frequency: The contest will run weekly, every Tuesday, and will be located on page 2 of the paper. Each week will feature both the prior week’s photo with the answer and a brief explanation of why the photo is historically significant, and the current week’s photo with the caption “Where in Routt County” and instructions to readers on where to send their answers (See How to Submit Your Answers section), names of readers who correctly identified the photo from the prior week, and what the winners will receive. (See Prizes section)

All photographers submitting photos will be given proper credit in the paper. Determination of when each photo will run will be at the discretion of HRC and ST editorial staff. The feature will begin in April 2010 and will run as long as there is energy and enthusiasm, and good reception and response from the community.
