Fisher Grave Site

This site was the grave of Leonard Otto Fisher. Leonard Fisher was born November 24, 1915 in a mining camp at Lyons, Wyoming. He was the only child of Leonard Edward and Gertrude Warren Fisher. As a youth of the depression era he had an appreciation for the simple gifts of life and the opportunities of the western frontier.

Leonard married Velma Alice Courtier in Rock Springs on June 30, 1940. They came to Routt County in 1953. They had four children: Dennis, Wesley, Gordon and Trudith. For many years Leonard and his wife, with their four children, built and re-built homes in Wyoming and Colorado. With his love of freedom he was always self employed with a variety of skills and occupations. He and his family considered they had found their "place" in beautiful Columbine, north of Clark. It is a gold and silver mining camp in Routt County at the base of Hahns Peak.

Services for Leonard Fisher were held Wednesday, June 10, 1981 at 1:00 p.m. in the Root Mortuary Chapel in Steamboat Springs. Interment was at Columbine.

The grave was located northwest from the town site of Columbine. It was located in Lot #7 of the Columbine Estates, formerly owned by Trudith Fisher. Lot #7 comprises approximately 3/4 of the SW and SE quarters of the NW quarter of section 6. Lot #7 contains approximately 44.15 acres of land.

Land records show that this area was once included in the Columbine Placer #1 & #2, first granted to Fred Bernoudy. Fred Bernoudy transferred his interest to J. R. Caron in 1921.

The Fisher property was sold and the remains of Leonard Otto Fisher were moved to the Steamboat Springs Cemetery in July of 1995.
