~8/18 - Open House at the Historic Crawford Home: Tuesday, August 18 from 4:00-6:00pm. FREE.
Step back in time and tour the historic Crawford home. Built in 1894, the stately stone landmark at 1184 Crawford Avenue was the home of Steamboat's founding family, the Crawfords. Now restored to its original condition and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Crawford family and the Tread of Pioneers Museum would like to offer you personal tours of this magnificent home. Tours will begin on the half hour beginning at 4:00pm; the last tour will begin at 5:30pm.

~7/30- Family Scavenger Hunt of Downtown's Historic Buildings: Thursday, July 30, 4:00-7:00pm, FREE.
On Thursday, July 30, we host this family friendly event. Participants can pick up the scavenger hunt at the museum between 4:00pm and 6:00pm, then tour the downtown on their quest before returning to the museum to claim their prize. We will offer free prizes and refreshments for all.

We celebrated the Museums 50th Anniversary at this community celebration. After the 4th of July parade down Lincoln Ave., everyone came to the Museum and enjoy a free community concert, kids pioneer games, refreshments, our famous Routt Beer Floats, a giant 50th anniversary cake, and free admission to the Museum. A favorite 4th of July tradition.

Come see our newest exhibit, When the School Bell Rings: The Story of Education in Routt County. From a solitary cabin to contemporary college, this exhibit explores the roles of teachers, students and communities in the education system of our area. Spring 2009 - Free Programs Brown Bag Lecture and Book Signing with author, Queeda Mantle Walker- May 29 at noon. Walker is the author of The Mantle Ranch and Last Ranch in Hell's Canyon.

~3/11 - Lovely Local Ladies
On Wednesday, March 11 at noon and 5:30 pm we celebrated Women's History Month and the local women who have made history in our valley. We presented costumed character monologues from some of the area's most notable women:Magaret Crawford, Charlotte Perry, Portia Mansfield, and Dorothy Wither, just to name a few. Fun for the whole family! One hour presentations at noon and again at 5:30 PM.
~2/19 - Behind the Scenes at the Museum
On Thursday, Feb. 19 at noon and 5:30pm participants went behind the scenes of the museum to explore some of the museum collection and preservation activities. General care and preservation tips offered for your family's treasures.
~1/29 - Hill of Champions
Film Showing To celebrate and kick off Winter Carnival, we showed this film featuring the history of Howelsen Hill, on Thursday, Jan. 29 at noon and 5:30pm at Centennial Hall. We held separate showings for select school classes and the City after-school program. Film length = 45 minutes.
~1/31 - Victorian Valentines Kids Program
Kids learned about the history of and make their own Victorian Valentines on Saturday, Jan. 31 at noon and 3pm. We held a separate program for the City's after-school program on Feb. 5.
~1/23 - A Talk with Leif Howelsen, Son of Carl Howelsen
Friday, Jan. 23 at noon at the United Methodist Church (corner of 8th and Oak). Bring a friend, and bring and lunch and hear Howelsen family stories.
~1/10 - Evolution of Skis
This “show and tell” program with Rob Hawkins and Dave Schulz is Saturday, Jan. 10 at 1pm. This FREE talk included a display of vintage skis from the museum’s collection and information on how to date and care for antique skis.
~1/13 - "The Making of Legends"
On Tuesday, Jan. 13 at noon and 5:30pm, local author and Steamboat Magazine publisher, Deb Olsen, shared her experiences creating the book Steamboat Springs Legends: A Centennial Collection. The event will include a book signing. ~Vintage Film Showing On Oct. 22, we hosted a Vintage Film Showing at Centennial Hall at noon and 5:30. We presented Enchantment in the Colorado Rockies, a 1940s Steamboat Chamber of Commerce promotional film, and Steamboat, There's Only One, a 1976 production for the Steamboat Village Resort/LTV Recreation Development. We receive very positive response with these programs. We are planning another film showing in early December.

~10/29 - Ghost Stories from Historic Colorado
We presented this haunted local oral history collection at noon and 5:30pm on Wed., Oct. 29. Local actress, drama teacher, and former student of Charlotte Perry, presented the local tales. We featured stories from historic buildings like the Depot, Rehder building, and others and included the history of the buildings themselves.
~10/7 (5 Tuesdays) - Storycatcher Circle
A weekly facilitated memoir workshop for all ages. Includes writing exercises and direction to build a collection of stories that celebrate you and your life journey. Come to one or all five - drop in or pay in advance! Olympic Heritage Walking Tour: Every Wednesday from June 25-Sept. 3, 9:00-10:30am, FREE.
Starts at the Tread of Pioneers Museum, 800 Oak St. This easy walking tour explores our Olympic heritage; the multiple talents of Carl Howelsen; and the history of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Winter Carnival, Howelsen Hill, and ski jumping. Once at Howelsen Hill, participants will witness the daring feats of ski jumpers soaring through the air during practice. Many people are afraid that they don't have the knowledge or skill to write their autobiography, yet writing a memoir can be a rich and rewarding experience that provides a lasting legacy for family members. "Memories to Memoirs," taught by Susan de Wardt, will provide simple writing tools and techniques along with abundant encouragement to preserve your personal and family history. Writer and Life Coach Susan de Wardt is an energetic speaker and an experienced facilitator of writing process who is recognized for her expertise in journal writing. A six-hour follow up course will be offered to interested participants through a sign up at the 1/22 programs- date TBD.

Festival of Trees
The 13th Annual Tread of Pioneers Museum "Festival of Trees", our joyous holiday fundraiser, runs November 10-19, 2007 (11am-5pm daily). Don't miss this magical holiday tradition. Sponsored by First National Bank of Steamboat Springs and Ace at the Curve. As alwsay, free for all Routt County residents.
The tree decorators, who consist of school groups, organizations and local businesses have been planning their beautiful and creative decorations for months. We usually have around 26 different trees from which the sponsors will choose.

Historic buildings included on the tour are the Old Town Pub, the Pilot Building, and the Pioneer Building. "One Stroke" painting class taught by Charlie Bessken, the artist who creates the gourd ornaments and glasses that we carry in the Museum Store. The class is limited to 12, and the cost is $25 (includes materials). Please call us at 879-2214 to register.
6/28-29 - The Safety Train: Thursday & Friday, June 28th-29th, departs the Depot at 9:00am, noon and 3:00pm. FREE.
Join the Tread of Pioneers Museum, the Steamboat Springs Arts Council, Union Pacific, and Operation Lifesaver for a ride on the train from the Steamboat Springs Depot to Craig (roundtrip). Each train ride will include a railroad safety talk, and costumed historical characters will be aboard select trains, presenting the history of the Depot, the railroad, Mt. Harris and more. ~Treacherous and Speedy Skee! Film Showing – We showed this film about the history of skiing in Steamboat at 5:30pm on Thursday, Dec. 4 at Centennial Hall.
~Victorian Childhood – We presented a private Victorian Childhood program (about leisure, recess games, clothing, toys, etc. in Victorian times to the 2nd grade at Christian Heritage School on Dec. 9.
~Parade of Museums – On Saturday, Dec. 13, we partnered with the Wyman Museum, Museum of NWCO, and the Hayden Heritage Center to present the 1st annual “Parade of Museums.” The bus was full and many others drove to follow. This all-day tour began at the Tread where we gave personal tours. The bus moved on to Hayden, the Museum of NWCO and finally the Wyman Museum. Each stop included tours, food and other holiday activities.
~Community Square Dance – On Friday May 1, we partnered with the Steamboat Springs Arts Council to host the Routt County Youth Art Show and a Community Square Dance lead by the Green Ridge Mountaineers. Over 80 people of all ages attended this family friendly event. This was the first formal event that we hosted to celebrate the Museum’s 50th anniversary. We served refreshments, gave away door prizes, and created a small exhibit on the history of the local Square Dance Festivals that included recently digitized film footage from the 1951 Square Dance Festival on Lincoln Avenue. A great time was had by all!
~Festival of Trees – While we set up and decorated the trees for the festival beginning Nov. 12, the event opened to the public on Saturday, Nov. 15. We were open everyday (including Sundays and Mondays) until Nov. 24. We delivered the trees to the business locations on Tuesday, Nov. 25. We hosted 807 people during the event.
