Why Preserve Historic Buildings? The natural, cultural and historic resources of Routt county have provided the framework and community character for a way of life that everyone loves. Preserving these historic resources retains elements of the real Routt county and the western heritage that residents treasure.Historic Preservation provides the identification and protection of sites, structures, objects, and areas that are important to Routt county's history and unique character. Some of the benefits to the property owner, developer, residents, and the community derived from the protection and enhancement of historic landmarks include:

Tax credit incentives for historic preservation are available at the state and federal level.
