Douglas D. Lees was born in Boulder, Colorado in September of 1860 to Scottish emigrants, David and Anna Graham Lees. David came to the United States in 1852 after learning the stonecutter's trade. David's parents were John and Barbara McMillan Lees. Douglas was one of the early settlers to Routt County, settling in Egeria Park between 1884 and 1890. Douglas married Eliza (Eugenia) in 1880 or 1881. He was elected sheriff in 1892 and served through 1895. In September of 1902 he sold his ranch to Oliver Cheney and in October of 1902 the family left to relocate in Washington.
