In September of 2009, Steamboat’s OTHG established a committee to investigate housing and services for seniors in the Steamboat Springs area. It was clear as we started our work that there is a relative lack of good opportunities for seniors in the Steamboat area. It was also clear that we, as possible future users of senior housing and services, did not know as much as we should about what is available in Steamboat now and what is available in other places..

People who work in this area say that when seniors are able to make their own decisions about changes to their housing or about supportive services required by life changes, they are generally happy about the changes. When changes are forced upon them they are often unhappy. Making good decisions requires foresight and good information. We hope that the material gathered by the committee is helpful.
