Skiing is a major activity in Steamboat, and people over 50 years of age with at least intermediate level skiing skills can find excellent terrain and people to ski with Sunday through Friday.  There will be no Guided Skiing on Saturdays in 2011 -2012.  In cooperation with the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation, two or more Guides from Steamboat's Over the Hill Gang lead complimentary skiing at the Steamboat Ski Area.  This program is available to anyone (local member or visitor) over 50 years old.  Skiing is done primarily on blue and groomed black trails, but bumps and trees may be skied if the Guides judge that the group is capable and interested, and if the snow and weather conditions warrant.

To join a Guided group, you have several options:

1)  Show up at the base of the Gondola just before 9 AM Sunday through Friday.  The group meets at the left side of Gondola Square as you face the mountain, directly across the plaza from the Gondola entrance, near the steps to the Bear River Grill.  We board the Gondola promptly at 9 AM.

2)  Find the Guides in the Cafeteria on the 3rd floor of the Thunderhead Lodge (top of the Gondola) during lunch between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM.  They will be usually be sitting near the windows closest to the cashiers.  Just walk up and say you would like to join them.

3)  Meet the Guides right after lunch at 12:30 PM on the snow near the bottom of the steps in front of the Thunderhead Lodge (top of the Gondola).

A typical guided ski day runs from  9 AM to about 3:30 PM with time for lunch and breaks, but you can leave anytime you have had enough.  Lunch is from 11:45 until 12:30 in the cafeteria at the Thunderhead Lodge at the top of the Gondola.  Members of Steamboat's Over the Hill Gang who wish to ski or board at a more aggressive or mellow pace than the guided skiing are encouraged to make contact with other members of a similar skill level and form their own groups.  REMEMBER ~ no one waits very long for a "friend" on powder days.

More than likely you will see two Guides skiing on a given day and they will be from the group listed for that day.
