Routt County 4-H Livestock and Horse programs are a strong part of the community in Routt County. 4-H youth raise market lambs, goats, rabbits, market beef, poultry, market swine, horses, breeding beef, breeding sheep and llama projects for exhibit at the Historic Routt County Fair and Rodeo.

4-H members learn skills in animal husbandry, record keeping, small business management, decision making, and resposibility.

Routt County 4-H members strive to represent agriculture at a high standard, and produce a wholesome and healthy food product.

Routt County 4-H Livestock Program

Routt County is proud of the Lufkin Beef Breeding Show which pays $2,500 annually in premiums to 4-H members exhibiting breeding beef projects.

Breeding sheep exhibitors are rewarded for raising their own market lambs through the Brenner family Ewe and Market Lamb Class. In addition the Craig Ram Sale and Elliot Family provide additional premiums.

Many 4-H members show rabbits, poultry and cavy projects at the Routt County Fair.

Routt County 4-H Horse Program

The Routt County 4-H Horse program is organized by an outstanding group of volunteer leaders. Members learn horsemanship, and gymkana skills 12 months out of the year. Members can evaluate themselves and their horses learning progress through the 4-H Horse Levels program.
