Black bears are the only species of bear currently found living in Colorado. The Yampa Valley has a wide variety of habitats that support black bears. However, the abundance of mountain shrubs including Gambels' oak, serviceberry and chokecherry allows for one of the largest concentration of black bears in Northwestern Colorado.
