Community Design Issues
Issue 1: Sense of Community
Community Design needs to promote community involvement and interaction and to link sub-communities (i.e. Old Town, West Steamboat, Mountain, Strawberry Park, South Steamboat).
Issue 2: Sense of Place, Preservation of Heritage
Community Design needs to preserve our historic downtown as the commercial center of the community and to use the downtown development pattern (i.e. individual local businesses) as a model for other commercial development.
Issue 3: Preservation of Environmental Amenities
Community Design needs to maintain and enhance contributing elements of the natural environment both on a community and neighborhood scale.
Issue 4: Linkages
Community Design needs to review and evaluate existing and future transportation needs and to design effective multi-modal connections between the key community elements and sub-communities.
Issue 5: Recreation
Community Design needs to encourage a balanced mix of developed and undeveloped recreational facilities and opportunities distributed throughout the community (de-centralize).
Issue 6: Community Gateways
Community design needs to consider and incorporate aesthetic considerations and view corridors at the three community gateways (east, north, and south) and in key community use areas (i.e. river corridors, Howelsen Hill).
Issue 7: Infill / Redevelopment
Community Design needs to respect the character and scale of neighborhoods and sub-communities.
Issue 8: New Growth
Community Design needs to promote the development of balanced and functional mix of uses within emerging sub-communities.
