A Pedestrian Recycling Unit (PRU) is an enclosure that houses newspaper racks and slots for recycling items such as newspaper, magazines, aluminum cans, junk mail, and plastic and glass bottles. Yampa Valley Recycles goal for building this unit was to provide a place for recycling and to improve the appearance of the downtown area. This was the first PRU in Steamboat Springs, built in November 2002. TCD donated the funds for this project and Denver Newspaper Agency donated the pedestal and spacers. City Council budgets funds for service and maintenance of the PRU.
