STEAMBOAT DANCE THEATRE

Steamboat Dance Theatre (SDT) was formed in 1972 in order to offer Steamboat’s local dancers the opportunity to perform, share a common bond, and to enrich our community with performance art.

For over 35 years SDT has traditionally given our locals the opportunity for dance education and advancement in the areas of choreography, performance, production, and master dance classes.

As the community has steadily grown, SDT has developed its programs accordingly. We now offer dance scholarships to community members of all ages who might otherwise not have been able to study dance.

Last year SDT proudly gave over $3,650 to 25 local dance students who (without financial assistance) would not have been able to participate in dance classes.
Community Enrichment
Our Enrichment Program engages dancers of all ages by offering master classes by guest artists. Dance is also promoted to other Steamboat locals through the showing of dance videos and by sponsoring performances by professional dance companies. Steamboat Dance Theatre is excited to announce that Aspen Santa Fe Ballet will be performing in Steamboat in October, 2008, and will also be conducting master classes.
Outreach Program
Steamboat Dance Theatre has participated in a School Outreach Program over the last several years, in an effort to encourage young artists to explore dance, while nurturing community values and arts education. We are currently in the process of organizing our program for the 2008-2009 school year. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Traci Cameron at (970) 819-2519.
Scholarship
The Steamboat Dance Theatre is now accepting applications for dance scholarships for Spring and Summer 2008. Anyone of any age with merit and/or financial need is welcome to apply for tuition assistance to study dance. Scholarships are funded for dance classes, workshops and programs in Routt County, throughout Colorado and out of state. Once approved, scholarship funds are paid to the program attended on behalf of the student. Scholarship forms may be downloaded on the link shown below. Call Wendy Smith-Mikelsons at 970-736-1005 with any questions.
