Women, Infants, and Children

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. This is a federally-funded nutrition program that provides nutrition education, healthful foods, and health referrals to women, infants, and children who qualify.

Who is eligible for WIC?

Pregnant women, breastfeeding women, postpartum women (up to 6 months after delivery), infants, and children up to age 5 are all eligible. Applicants must be residents of the county where they receive services and must meet these income guidelines.

If your household (the number of people living in your home) is the number on the left, and your entire household earns no more than the number on the right per month, then you qualify for WIC.

NOTE: One pregnant woman is a household of two. For more than 8 household members, or if you have any income questions, please call your local WIC clinic or the toll-free number below. These guidelines are for July 1, 2001 - June 30, 2002. They are provided by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Envirnonment Nutrition Services /WIC.

Why get WIC?

Participants receive:

  • Personal counseling about the nutritional needs for themselves and their family;

  • Encouragement and instruction in breastfeeding methods;

  • Checks for milk, cereals, eggs, cheese, peanut butter, beans, juices, and infant formula (breastfeeding moms also receive tuna and carrots); and Referrals to a variety of health, food, and social service programs.
