No one knows for sure when Steamboat Springs hosted its first organized rodeo competition; however vintage photos show us that it could have been as early as 1987. In the rough riding heyday, not only were the cowboys and cowgirls well known, but also so were the bucking animals they mounted. Horses like Pin Ears, Carrie Nation, Whirlwind and probably the most famous, General Pershing, earned great respect. Rodeoing in Steamboat has become a proud tradition and, for some, a way of life. Organized rodeo is bigger and better than ever, thanks to the efforts of the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association and Steamboat Springs Rodeo Series Committee.
The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series still takes place every Friday and Saturday night beginning In late June and ending in August. The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series is sanctioned by the PRCA and the WPRA. Please click here for additional information and times.
