Henry Clay Seaton was born July 1, 1844 in Wisconsin. He married Viola Florilla Lucas on October 7, 1870 in Boone County, Illinois. After living there for 6 years they decided to move and like most pioneers traveled across the plains and mountains in an ox drawn covered wagon. They settled in Columbia Center, Washington. H. C. must have been somewhat of a wanderlust because after just a few years he decided to move again, this time settling at Platteville, Colorado. After two years the family again moved, this time arriving in Routt County and homesteading on Sage Creek. H. C. was a civic minded man. He took an interest in the community and the welfare of its people. In 1889 he was elected sheriff and took office in 1890 serving a two year term. Bitten by the bug to move again the family packed 2 covered wagons and a buckboard and traveled to Meridian, Idaho for a brief 2 year residence. Some of the older children remained in Routt county and others later returned, settling on Yellow jacket Pass. Upon hearing about Jackson Hole, Wyoming and the majestic Teton Mountains, large herds of wild game, the search for gold and many other tales about frontier living H. C. moved again to Jackson Hole, Wyoming remaining there until his death on August 17, 1932.
