Chura Grave Site
Marina Chura Grave Site [Click here to view full size picture] This is the grave site of Marina (Mary) Chura. She was born in 1903 and as per her headstone died in 1912. In an article from the Routt County Republican dated Oct. 24, 1913, it states: "Diptheria is in the Edward Chura family of Deep Creek and one of the girls died a few days ago..." We believe that this article referred to Mary Chura. The brothers that are still living at this time said that they had always been told that she had died in 1912. The stone is a new stone that was placed there in 1993 by the family. The article also states that they were from Deep Creek, when in fact they were from the Chimney Creek area. The reference to the "Edward" Chura family leads us to believe that this was in fact the father Egnatz Cuira and the same family. Egnatz Cuira, as it is spelled in the land records, came to this country from Innsburg, Austria. Edward (Egnatz) Chura died in Denver, date unknown at this time.

Land records show that Egnatz Cuira got a homestead exemption on 81.14 acres of land on July 27, 1910. It was patented on June 9, 1914. In this record it shows the original spelling of the name along with the notation "Chura". In 1943, it appears that the land was transferred to the family members. In 1952 the land was sold to Rehder and then sold in 1968 to Richard Blomquist. It is currently owned by Carl Blomquist and leased to Willard Marshall.
