Iacovetto Grave Site
Iacovetto Grave Site This is relative new site. It is the burial of cremains only. Leon Iacovetto was born in Oak Creek on Dec. 2, 1939 to Mr. & Mrs. Jim Iacovetto. The father, Jim, was the son of Salvatore (Sam) Iacovetto and Angelina Lombardi. Salvatore was born March 7, 1887 and Angelina was born Sept. 7, 1891. They were married May 2, 1908. The father, Jim, was born May 19, 1913. His wife, Doris Pauline Clark was born Nov. 18, 1919 and they were married Dec. 21, 1937.

Jimmie Leon Iacovetto was married to Loretta Compagno (born Jan. 25, 1937) on May 30, 1958. They had three children: Christopher Leon, born June 9, 1959, Cathy Lynette, born Feb. 6, 1962 and Cynthia Loretta, born July 15, 1964.

Leon Iacovetto had suffered an extended illness and died at the home of his parents on March 18, 1977. He had resided in the Town of Phippsburg for the past 12 years. Leon was well known as a sheepman in south Routt and Eagle Counties and was active in ranching until the onset of his illness. Memorial services were held on Friday, April 1, 1977 in the First Baptist Church in Yampa. From family information, only his cremains are buried at this site.

From the land records it shows that this property has passed through many persons. It was homesteaded by David Gray on August 8, 1899. He received a patent December 18, 1903. Gray sold to Geo. Bowskill in 1903 and then Bowskill sold to McCullough in 1911. Over the next twenty five years it was transferred several times. The following are previous owners: Charley Osborne, Isaac Henney, Parker Brown, Al Edberg, Dan Zarlingo, E. A. Eastin, Adolph Infanger and P. J. Martin. We see that in 1944 Martin sold to Jimmie and Pauline Iacovetto, our subjects parents. In 1971 it was transferred to other family members, including Leon. Leon's death certificate was recorded in 1980 and in 1988 the land was sold to Jake and Charlotte Riggi. In 1992 the land was moved into a Trust. Jake Riggi has passed away and Charlotte is in the process of selling the land.

This site is on private property and permission for access is required.
