Drug Store and Post Office
Drug Store and Post Office [Click here to view full size picture]
The Drug Store/ Post Office was built before 1929 by Bob Bishop. These two businesses were in one building found across the highway from the Beanery. The store contained magazines; jewelry and medications that were sold over the counter. It also served ice cream and smoothies. The drug store was the busiest on baseball game days. The baseball players came in after the games and bought some ice cream and smoothies. The store was turned into a pawnshop later by Claude Iacovetto. It has now been closed for four to five years.

The old Drug Store/Post Office had a false front made of wood. The building also has brown shingles on the side. The front windows were probably single-hung but are currently covered with wood. In the 1940’s, it changed into a pawnshop that was owned by Claude Iacovetto who sold sporting goods. Mr. Iacovetto has kept the building the same since it was first built.

The information was gathered with help of The Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg. Dutch and Neva Ebaugh. Lila Rider, Markie Williams and Mike Yurich were invaluable resources for the project. This description was written by Chelsea and Susan, students at Soroco High School in May of 2006.
