Bishop Filling Station

The Bishop Filling Station was located on the railroad side of Highway 131 and faced west. The owner was Bob Bishop who lived in, worked at, and owned the facility. Mr. Carmichael, who was the superintendent of the local school district, was another owner of the filling station.

The pumps in front of the filling station were 55-gallon drums with a pump on the top. The locals knew it as “Bob Bishop's filling station”. The original station burned down. The cost of gas was 17 cents per gallon for regular and 19 cents for diesal when Mr. Bishop owned the station.

The filling station has a gabled roof with a false front. The siding has vertical boards which formed the false front and the sidewalls are made from logs. The foundation was covered by the siding which goes all the way to the ground so we could not determine the texture of the foundation. There is an addition on the right side of the building which has a window and fixed frame. There are two large commercial windows bordering the front door on the filling station.

The information was gathered with the help of The Historical Society of Oak Creek and Phippsburg. Dutch and Neva Ebaugh, Lila Rider, and Markie Williams and Mike Yurich were invaluable resources for this project. This description was written by Joey and John students at Soroco High School in May of 2006.
