The Yampa Jail is located on First Street between Main Street and Clifton next to the Yampa Egeria Museum. It serves as a storage area for historical items for the museum. Construction on the Yampa Jail took place in June 1906. The actual size of the structure was 12’x16’. It is small white building shaped like a storage shed. The cells inside the jail are 2’x8’. The only physical change that took place is that the jail has been relocated.

In June 1906 Yampa’s first marshall, Mr.M.J.Rhodes was hired. During that same time John Schiller was also hired to construct the first Yampa Jail which was to be a Jail sail for the drinks. The cost to build this structure during 1906 was $344.50. It took less than a year for Marshall Mr. MJ. Rhodes to be replaced by Marshall W.H Greer. On July 7, 1907 Mr. W. H. Greer resigned and was followed by a Mr. C. B. Chaffee.

Yampa Jail housed many criminals in it's day. One of Moffats notorious female outlaws was called “the Sage Hen.” She was charged with the sale of liquor without a license. Before being sent to Hahn's Peak jail she spent a night at the Yampa Jail
