Brief Biography:
Davis grew up near the ski jumps of Howelsen Hill and started skiing at the age of 6. The following year he placed first in a jumping competition in Aspen, Colorado and missed first place in a cross county competition in Winter Park, Colorado by one second.

Achieving recognition as the five-time Rocky Mountain division Jumping and Cross Country Champion from 1969-1976 was the first of many distinctions for young Jeff Davis. His list of accomplishments include becoming the Junior Nationals Special Jumping Champion in 1979, World Cup Jumping Champion in 1981, recipient of the Merrill Trophy in Steamboat Springs in 1981 with a jump of 334 feet, and most recognizably, taking 17th place at the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980, making it the best U.S. placement in the 70 meter jump.

Davis would have received the Silver Medal at Lake Placid had the judges recognized his first and second jumps. Although he jumped 91 meters on the 70-meter hill, his score was lost when the judges required him and 9 other competitors to re-jump a safer course in order to avoid the wind and dangerous transition. He jumped 84.5 meters on his second re-jump to place him 17th overall.

Davis attended the Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. In 1985 he married Julie Bogacki, a member of the U.S. Cycling Team (1979-1983). They met in Lake Placid. Later they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Davis worked in the construction business.
