Jarrett was born in Denver, Colorado and started jumping in Winter Park. Later his family moved to Steamboat and he attended Whiteman School. Jarrett was on the US Ski Team from 1992-1998. He competed in the World Cup during that time. His best finish in a World Cup was 10th in Oslo, Norway. Jarrett was 23rd in World Championships in Fallin, Sweden in 1993 and 24th in World Championships in Trodheim, Norway. Jarrett and his team placed 4th in the team event in World Championships in Thunder Bay, California and 5th in 1997 in Trondheim.

Jarrett loves Steamboat and someday would like to return to the Yampa Valley. Dave met his wife Kelly in Steamboat and they were married in April 1997. Living and training in Steamboat provided Dave with the tools he needed to succeed. Although he did not win a medal, he says that training and living in Steamboat did help his career. Currently, Dave lives with his wife Kelly, son Jack, and daughter Angela in Utah. Jarrett is a coach for the US Nordic Combined Team.
