Pets - Small and Large>Animal Assistance League of NW Colorado>What We Do
What the Animal Assistance League Does
- Support local animal shelters. The League provides funding for spay and neuter of shelter animals, and encourages people to adopt pets from shelters. League volunteers walk with shelter dogs in the Winter Carnival and Fourth of July Parades to publicize the number of wonderful animals in need of good homes.
- Support local wildlife rehabilitation organizations. The league provides ongoing financial support to Born Free Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
- Provides emergency veterinary care for injured, homeless animals. The League provides funds for medical care and finds homes for many stray, injured animals through othe Rudy Fund.
- Provide education to the public and promote responsible pet ownership. The League participates in Spay Day, U.S.A. each year, and works with pet owners and veterinarians to spay and neuter as many pets as possible. Our yearly Be Kind to Animals Week Writing contest teaches school children about animal welfare issues and responsible ownership. We are also proud to sponsor a monthly animal kindness publication that is being delivered to 24 classrooms of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.
