Hayden Tiger Gliders Nordic Ski Club

Nordic skiing pals (photo courtesy of Steamboat Ski Touring Center) [Click here to view full size picture] The Tiger Gliders Nordic Ski Club is an entry-level program for boys and girls where cross-country skiing skills are introduced in a fun atmosphere. Young athletes will experience ski play, games, cross-country skiing and easy skiing adventures around Dry Creek Park, just a block from school.

Competitive opportunities are available through the Nordic Challenge Series and we also will plan a family ski day at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center.

TIGER GLIDERS NORDIC SKI CLUB

WHO:
Kids in 1st through 8th Grade – Coached by Mrs. Robin Bush & Mrs. Tammie Delaney

WHAT:
After-school Nordic/cross-country ski program

WHEN:
Thursday afternoons, January 6 through February 24, 2005
3:30-5:00pm Additional race and family ski day opportunities as scheduled

WHERE:
Hayden Dry Creek Park Trailhead behind the Fairgrounds—Sessions will meet and end at the Hayden Valley Elementary School

WHY:
To enjoy our Nordic ski opportunities right here in Hayden!

HOW MUCH:
$50 for 8 sessions plus ski rentals (proceeds help benefit the Dry Creek park Nordic trail)

REGISTRATION:
Register at the Hayden Town Hall or by downloading the registration form on this page and forwarding to Tammie Delaney; faxing to 970-276-1722 or by calling 970-276-3436.

Minimum skills requirement:
Beginner skiing skills, stopping, turning, gliding.

Equipment requirements:
Ski equipment is the responsibility of each participant. You will need cross-county skis, boots & poles, and optional helmet.

We will plan a day (date to be determined) of family fun at the Steamboat Ski Touring Center in Steamboat Springs.

The Steamboat Ski Touring & Snow Shoeing Center offers $10 season passes to elementary and middle school skiers.

The “NORDIC CHALLENGE” Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoe Race Series is for all ages and abilities. The Nordic Challenge will introduce you to all the nordic centers in the Steamboat Springs area as well as provide a safe, fun and informative atmosphere for the beginner, and an aerobic and technical challenge for the expert. The “Nordic Challenge” series is available at various locations through the year.

Race Dates and Locations:

  • Wednesday, December 15th: Howelsen Hill Relay

  • Saturday, January 8th: Vista Verde

  • Sunday, January 22nd: Steamboat Lake

  • Saturday, January 29th: Latigo Ranch. This is a new event for 2005 and not a part of the point series

  • Sunday, February 13th: Steamboat Ski Touring Center

  • Sunday, February 19th: Lake Catamount Nordic Challenge Finals
