Camp Fire was founded in 1910 by Luther Gulick, M.D. and his wife, Charlotte Gulick, as the first non-sectarian organization for girls in the United States. The first meetings of Camp Fire Girls were held in Vermont. In 1975 the organization was expanded to include boys.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...

Steamboat Springs was named when French Fur Trappers heard a sound that reminded them of a Steamboat. The sound actually came from the natural mineral springs at the far end of town now named the Steamboat Spring. The sound quit when the railroad was laid.

There are more than 150 springs in the area including Litha Springs, Strawberry Park Hot Springs, the Heart Springs at the Health & Recreation Center, Soda Springs and many on private lands.

Routt County was established January 29, 1877 from Grand County. Routt County originally encompassed the north west corner of Colorado including present day Moffat County. Moffat County was formed February 27, 1911 from Routt County.

Plentiful water and fertile floodplain soils have made agriculture an intrinsic part of Routt County's heritage and a defining feature of its picturesque landscape for over a century.

Routt County was created in 1877 and named after John Long Routt, the last territorial and first state governor of Colorado. Today Routt County is the home to nine towns. It's econmic base is mining, ranching, and tourism.

For over 130 years, Colorado has been making skiing history. From the early trappers and miners of the late 1800's, to the competitive high tech racers of today, Colorado has constantly made its mark on the skiing world.
