Annually the Routt County Junior Livestock Sale is a community event not to miss. Over 100 4-H and FFA youth annually sell high quality livestock at the sale. This is a great opportunity for community members to purchase meat products, while supporting the youth in our community.
Annually Routt County 4-H Youth are required to attend or re-certify in Meat Quality Assurance and Animal Ethics. 4-H members pride themselves in raising healthy wholesome food products.
Routt County 4-H has exchanged with other states for years. In the past Routt County 4-H youth have lived with other 4-H families from Vermont, Washington, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, New York, California and other states.
Annually youth from Routt, Grand, Moffat, Jackson, Summit, Rio Blanco, Garfield, and Eagle Counties meet in Craig for a youth leadership retreat. Youth from the age of 10-18 attend the weekend conference in March.
Annually 1/2 of the projects are exhibited at the Routt County Exhibit day progam. 4-H members exhibit a variety of projects including: Clothing, Cooking, Model Rocketry, Leathercraft, Ceramics, Cake Decorating, Vet. Science, Photography, Gardening and Fashion Revue.
Routt County Youth age 14-18 learn to be leaders in their community through particpating in the Junior Leader Program.
The Routt County Livestock Judging project is designed to teach members valuable life long skills. The program enhances members' communication and language skills along with gaining a better understanding of the livestock (i.e. beef, sheep, and swine) industry.
Routt County 4-H is governed by the the youth involved in the Routt County 4-H Council. They meet bi-monthly to make decisions, and provided assistance in 4-H activities. The council is gorverned by two votes from each community club, and an officer team.
