Steamboat Springs is at 6,728 feet, the base of the Resort is at 6,900 feet, which could mean alot of altitude gain depending where you are from. As you ascend to higher altitudes, atmospheric pressure decreases, the air is thinner and less oxygen is available. It is also colder, drier and the ultraviolet rays from the sun are stronger. Each of these changes may have unpleasant effects on your body.
The following is a list of the elevations one can expect when visiting the Yampa Valley:
City of Steamboat Springs: 6,728 ft. Hayden: 6,337 ft. Oak Creek: 7,414 ft. Clark: 7,275 ft. Yampa: 7,890 ft.
Steamboat Ski Area -Mt. Werner base elevation = 6,900 feet -Mt. Werner mid-mountain = 9,080 feet -Mt. Werner Summit = 10,568 feet

After arriving at high altitude, you will probably notice that your breathing is faster and/or deeper, and you may feel short of breath especially when exercising.
