In Routt County, sports are a big part of life. For me, being a teen, sports are my life. They bring people with similar interests together, and that is where I met all of my friends. The whole community gets involved with sports because the environment is exciting and friendly. Our volleyball team, for example, this year went to state. Throughout the journey it took to get there, our games were packed with fans from the community; everybody was involved. Sports like that unite Routt County, and as a teenager that is when I feel most a part of the community. Steamboat bonds as different people are brought together through sports. Not only do the people participating get involved, but through fundraisers and newspapers the whole town get into it. Businesses get recognition through us for donating money and the paper gets the word out to all the residents. Being a part of this environment is something special for me because it's something that I love that makes me a part of the community.
